Diocese of Covington at 1125 Madison Ave., Covington, KY 41011-3115 US - HomeWelcome to The Diocese of Covington
My dear Friends,
Some time ago there was a commercial on TV that used the familiar Christmas song "It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" as a promotion for buying back to school items. It had parents pushing a shopping cart through the store while the song played in the background. It was quite ingenious.
Actually, going back to school should be considered a wonderful time, especially for the students. Education is of paramount importance and the education of our children is something that we all need to take very seriously since their education prepares them for life. A solid education builds a solid foundation.
Of course, we value not only education in general but in particular a solidly Catholic school education. Catholic schools are a proud part of our history in the Diocese of Covington. From the earliest days of our Diocese, Catholic School education has been a priority. It is not different today. We provide a Catholic School education from pre-school thru college. I encourage all parents to prayerfully consider a Catholic school for your children. Our Catholic schools ground our children in the faith so that they can be prepared to take their place in the world. Catholic schools are still the best way to impart the faith to our children. Always have been, always will be.
I take the opportunity to thank all those parents who have entrusted your children to our Catholic School system in the Diocese of Covington. I know that many of you are making great sacrifices to provide your children with a thoroughly Catholic education and for that I am grateful. I also thank all our school administrators, faculty and staff for your dedication and devotion to Catholic school education. I thank our parish priests for your support of Catholic schools. I also express my gratitude to Mr. Michael Clines, our Superintendent of Schools and his staff and to Mr. Isaak A. Isaak, director of our Catechesis and Formation office for their leadership in helping to provide our students with a firm foundation in the faith upon which to build their lives. And my profound thanks to all our benefactors without whom we would be hard-pressed to continue to provide a Catholic school education for so many.
I pray that this may be a year filled with blessings and growth for all those who, in any way, support Catholic schools. Undoubtedly, there are alternatives to Catholic Schools, but there are simply no substitutes!
Yours devotedly in the Lord,
Most Reverend Roger J. Foys, D.D.
Bishop of Covington
